Le Cirque de la Nuit / Cirque Nuit Arts Foundation is always looking to grow and make new connections. We’re currently seeking submissions for auditions for 2024 and beyond for our annual and biennial Signature and Sideshow event productions, as well as our yearly Corporate and Festival performance bookings. This is an opportunity for us to meet emerging and established talent that are interested in working with Le Cirque de la Nuit in the future. We want to make relationships and connections in the Alberta circus community!
Le Cirque de la Nuit encourages submissions from diverse artists of all backgrounds, regardless of race, colour, national origin, age, religion, creed, disability, sexual orientation, or gender identity. We welcome applicants to inform us of their pronouns if they wish, and to include details about how their identity informs their practice and needs as they feel comfortable.
All performers engaged with Le Cirque de la Nuit will be paid, with compensation depending on the type of performance.
AUDITIONS WILL BE HELD ON:
April 9 – 10 and 15 – 17, 2024 during the day.

All circus artists, regardless of their discipline(s) are welcome to submit. We understand that many artists are multi-disciplinary, so please include in your submission which discipline(s) you work in/you are interested in. We are also specifically looking for the following collaborators for projects in the summer and fall 2024:
Clown/Character Performers | Aerialists: All apparatuses, but we are really interested in the following: Corde Lisse, Strap, Lolipop and Duo Aerials (all apparatuses) | Cyr Wheel | Acrobatics/Tumbling | Hand to Hand | Contortion | Hand Balancing | Dance
AUDITION INFORMATION:
Auditions will be held in person in Calgary with artistic director Kelley Matley. Meetings may also include show directors, including Andrew G. Cooper and others as appropriate.
Artists not able to make these in-person auditions may request a virtual audition or submit a self-tape/video sample.
Only those chosen by our artistic team will be invited to audition. Those selected will be provided with more information on what to expect and prepare ahead of time.

We welcome artists of all disciplines, from acrobats, aerialists and dancers from all styles to prop manipulators, fire spinners and drag artists! We are particularly interested in performers who bring a unique and original perspective to their craft, and who are dedicated to pushing the boundaries of what is possible in their art-form. Whether you are an established artist with years of experience or an emerging artist ready to share your craft on stage, we encourage you to submit your work and share your vision with us. Our goal is to create unforgettable experiences for our audiences, by showcasing the widest possible range of talent and creativity.
Do I need to have a ton of previous experience?
We value enthusiasm, originality, and style in our artists, and believe that these qualities are just as important as previous experience. While experience can be beneficial, we welcome artists of all backgrounds and experience levels to submit their work for consideration. Whether you are an established artist with years of experience or an emerging artist ready to share your art with audiences, we encourage you to showcase your talents and dedication to your craft through your submission. Our goal is to provide a platform for artists to showcase their unique vision and creativity, and we look forward to seeing what you have to offer.
How much do you pay your artists?
At Le Cirque de la Nuit, we understand the importance of compensating our performers fairly for their talents and hard work. The amount that we pay our artists is based on a number of factors, including their artistic discipline, level of experience & expertise, and the length of their performance. We believe that all artists deserve to be paid what they are worth, and we are committed to ensuring that our performers are compensated fairly for their contributions to our shows. We are proud to support our artists and to help them build sustainable careers in the circus arts, and we believe that fair compensation is an essential part of that support. We are always on the lookout for talented and passionate artists who bring a unique perspective to their craft. When we review submissions, we are interested in learning more about what sets you apart from other performers in your field. We want to know what inspires you, what drives you to push the boundaries of your art, and why you think you would be a great addition to our artist roster. We encourage you to share your story with us, and to tell us about your creative vision and what makes your work stand out. I submitted my info and recieved no response. What does that mean?
We receive many submissions from talented artists daily. While we review each submission carefully, we only consider those that we believe will be a good fit for our objectives and audiences and will only respond to those considerd when we may require them for an upcoming performance opportunity. Please know that we keep a record of all our reviewd submissions, and constantly draw from those submissions when selecting artists for future performance opportunities. So don’t be discouraged if you haven’t been contacted! If your talents are ideally suited for a particular performance or event, we will reach out.
Additionally, we host annual in-person auditions, and all artists who have previously submitted their work will be contacted and given first priority to share their talents directly with our creative team.
